I love the Kindle Paperwhite!

I finally got it in the mail on the 16th, after nearly a month of waiting (I ordered it on the 18th). I am happy to say that it has definitely met my expectations. It is amazing! I’ll begin by describing my favorite things:

The Light
Of course, this is the key feature of this kindle and I think that Amazon did a great job with it. It is fairly even, though I see the shading at the bottom that everyone’s been complaining about. It’s not a big deal people. Seriously. I don’t even think about it while I read because I’m READING.

I love that I can adjust the brightness level on the screen. I especially love being able to adjust it while I’m reading so I don’t have to keep going back to the main menu.

The Touchscreen
Fantastic. It’s way more responsive than I would have thought it would be for a device with an e-ink display. The page turns were very fast and so was selecting things on the store and main menu. I was afraid that I would be accidentally touching the screen while I was reading and switching the pages, but it didn’t happen. I was able to comfortable hold on to the sides of the kindle without my fingers slipping to the screen.

I also thought about what would happen if dust or something landed on the screen while I was reading. How was I going to wipe it off? I know silly question, but wiping to the side switches the pages, so I found that just wiping to the bottom or top of the device won’t change what you’re on.

Time To Read
This has got to be of my top favorite features on this kindle. This is what I’ve been waiting for! It works great. Time To Read continually adjusts to the speed I’m reading at and updates the time left in the chapter/book at the bottom of the screen. I wasn’t sure how well this would work, but I’m impressed with how accurate it was.

Everything Else
All the other features on the kindle (new and old) aren’t as important to me. Yes, there is X-Ray, but I know I won’t be using that much. The cover view feature sounded great, but scrolling through so many book covers is a bit tedious, so I’m leaving it in list view. What drew me to the kindle was the light and Time To Read and those features definitely didn’t disappoint. I’m super happy with my purchase and I’m eager to read more books on it! :)

  1. You have now sold me on definitely upgrading to this. I have the kindle touch, and I wish all the time I had a light I dind’t have to attach. I’ve been debating, but seeing your review of it, my mind is made up. I will be upgrading in the next couple of weeks. :D

I’ve been debating this one, should I, shouldn’t I. I had the regular Kindle (kid broke it) now I have a kindle fire, definitely contemplating the paperwhite though just to have back up for books only. Great review cute decal

  3. Yay! I have the kindle touch, and I am learning to love it. It has taken me a long time since I LOVE paper books, but we are coming to an easy truce. I will have to check that one out to see if I need to upgrade this year. Funny what you said about the covers. I think that is what I am missing too, but maybe I wouldn’t be if I tried that view. Enjoy!

I thought about getting the Touch when it came out, but I wasn’t sure if I would like an e-reader with a touchscreen. However, when the Paperwhite came out I knew I had to buy it just because of the light, so I would have to deal with the touchscreen. I’m glad that it’s not bad at all!
